I was a director of a college, one that had a large ‘special education and disability needs’ section. And, as a senior school inspector for a London Borough, I worked closely with their ‘Troubled Families’ initiative and pupil referral units for pupils excluded from school. Then, at the end of my career, I was head of a unit for young people with physical and mental health needs.\n\nThroughout this time I had regular contact with people in other agencies trying their best to support vulnerable young adults, in particular the police but also mental health services, social services and various other support agencies. The impact on these agencies of budget cuts to public services has brought many of them too their knees, to a point where they can barely function. \n\nMany of the occurrences recounted and the characters found in this novel are based on real incidents and people I have come across. Although I have allowed myself a wide degree of poetic licence in writing about the main characters, their motivations and the killings that are depicted.\n View more >>
